International arts collective Felt Zine got in touch with us late last year to pitch a few different collaborations, but the first we’re sharing is Los Buenos - thanks to Ad Hoc’s Emily Wheeler for announcing the series today. From her coverage…
Felt Zine, a collective focusing on “avant-garde art, fashion, and intelligence”, is producing a new bi-weekly animation web series entitled Los Buenos. Featuring work from painter Mario Ayala and rapper Krayola Kid, among others, with a score curated by the Crash Symbols record label, the series attempts to combine an exploration of the marginalized social landscape with an experimental filmmaking style. The first episode explores a depressed Latino high schooler who, five years later, finds himself working a dead-end job at an “organic, ‘locally-supported’ chain supermarket”…

For this episode, we sent the guys at Felt Zine a lot of music to consider and we ended up agreeing that Spectral Park’s “Filter #54”, a short track from his self-titled debut, was clearly the best fit. Though we won’t be releasing the album on cassette for another little while, you can grab it on vinyl from Mexican Summer here.
Just a note, we won’t be picking music exclusively from our catalog - it’s a good catalog, we know, but claymation demands diversity.
